A few weeks ago, another friend inadvertently reminded me of the first movie that I ever saw at a movie theatre. He is a true movie and music buff and was just playing the famous soundtrack of the movie on his computer but it revived some of the earliest childhood memories for me ... I was 5 or 6 years old then. It was a couple of years after the Iranian revolution and sentiment of “revolution” was everywhere. That day, I had been told from the morning that we would watch a movie at night. I was excited and impatiently waiting for the great moment. The movie was chosen according to the sentiment of that time and obviously I couldn’t understand much of it and the politics behind it. All remained in my mind after the movie was the sea cliff scene in which the state secret agents badly beat one of the the opposition members. That scene lingered in my mind for a long time as the only thing from the movie and as one of my earliest childhood memories. Why that scene? I probably never know but somehow it is related to the culture of oppression in my country. Listen to the soundtrack of “State of Siege”.
